# Next Generation Authoring (Beta)- enhancements

We recently released [Next Generation Authoring](https://amplience.com/developers/docs/schema-reference/) (Beta) to improve the authoring experience for both content authors and developers. Many users have [switched on](https://amplience.com/developers/docs/schema-reference/) Next Generation Authoring and started to take advantage of its new features, including an enhanced "look and feel" and developer features such as customizable input fields and control over form layout.

We're responding to your feedback, quickly addressing issues and incorporating enhancements. This note summarizes the improvements since the initial beta release.

> This release of Next Generation Authoring is classified as a beta release. During this beta phase you have the option to switch Next Generation Authoring on or off. ## New "sticky" form header

A new form header makes it easier to manage locales, expand and collapse fields, and ensure that all required fields have been filled in.

When you save a content item, a message in the form header warns you if any required fields are missing entries. The message is displayed until all required fields are entered and stays at the top of the form as you scroll, as shown in the example below.

## Multi select images, video and content

The previous authoring experience allowed you to select multiple images, videos or content items and add them to your content. We've now included this functionality in Next Generation Authoring to simplify the authoring experience.

## Better compatibility with custom extensions

In response to feedback, we've addressed some issues with custom extensions, improving compatibility with arrays and uninitialized objects. If you switched on Next Generation Authoring and encountered issues with some of your extensions, then the problems should be fixed with the latest release.

## Schema examples for developers

You can find 12 new schema examples to help you get started with the new features of Next Generation Authoring. We've included examples demonstrating customizable input fields, conditionals and content palettes, as well as how to control your form layout with tabs and grids.

To try out the schema examples, go to the Development section, choose "Content type schemas" and click the "Create schema" button. From the "Create content type schema" dialog choose "Start with an example" and choose an example from the "Next gen authoring" section as shown in the image below.
